India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will miss Monday’s Asia Cup match against Nepal due to injury. Bumrah returned home from Sri Lanka for personal reasons, but he is anticipated to return for the Super Fours if India qualifies.

Bumrah, who recently returned from a lengthy back ailment, has yet to bowl in an ODI in the month leading up to the World Cup. He returned to ODI play last week, but was unable to bowl because India’s match against Pakistan was rained out before Pakistan’s innings began.

Since his return, Bumrah has appeared in just two T20Is against Ireland, delivering a total of eight overs and claiming four wickets across both matches; he was named the Player of the Series.

This leaves Bumrah potentially unprepared for the burden in ODIs, where he would not only have to bowl ten overs per innings but also field for the remaining 40 overs, given that he is India’s spearhead.

This is one of the issues that former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out prior to the Asia Cup.

In July of 2022, Bumrah completed his ten-over quota in an ODI for the last time.

Given the rainout against Pakistan, India’s match against Nepal in Pallekele on Monday is a must-win. And despite the fact that the Super Four matches are scheduled to take place in Colombo, there is a possibility that the expected rain will compel the matches to be played elsewhere.
